As simple as this video may seem it was incredibly intricate. There were so many moving parts, I am very happy with the design aesthetic we pulled off. There is hardly any distinction from the built sets vs. the locations.
Joy Joy Nails | Tribeca 2017
Joy Joy nails was made “as a response to Sarah Maslin Nir’s NY Times exposé ‘Unvarnished,’ exposing the injustices towards immigrant workers in New York nail salons. Writer/director Joey Ally wanted the salon feel like a chipped nail, whereas the tenement housing revealed the reality of their low income and long hours. We relied on color to emphasize this contrast, boosting the neons in the nail salon and aging down the colors in the tenement housing.

The film follows Sophia, a day in the life of a young prostitute. The portrayal reflects on what it's like to be "girlfriended-in" to prostitution. I worked closely with cinematographer, Mary Ma to envision the world. We wanted it to be stylized and gritty but grounded in the reality of this lifestyle.
Lady Parts is a comedic take on our current sexist climate. The Los Angeles film industry being one of the worst offenders. This quirky short was created by Erin Rye, who I had a wonderful collaboration with. We wanted the film to begin with a softer palette and than turn into a “harsh reality” through both the decor and color.
White River Tales
The film explores fate, family, and fatherhood. It's a very human story about the duality of man and the struggle to do good in the face of adversity. I worked closely with writer/director, Steve Ohl and cinematographer, Scottie Summers to establish a world that was dated and evolving in a very deliberate color palette. It was always important to us that the world feel realistic, but the story has moments of heightened reality that we wanted to bring out in both the design and cinematography.
And We're Out of Time
And We're Out of Time is a black comedy. It's a dark take on a talk show host who's losing touch with reality and grasping for the fame they used to know. Director, Jake Yuzna wanted the design to feel like Liquid Sky by Slava Tsukerman.

Set along the LA river, two lovers decide to end it all. A modern day Romeo and Juliet, the design of the world was inspired by Ash Thayer's photography series, Kill City.
This Old House
This Old House is a psychological thriller about a woman trapped in her childhood home. Originally written, the house was more of a hoard the character was constantly cleaning but the piles would not go away. Instead, I suggested dust, a haunting dust that she can never remove. This allowed the character to appear more normal so as her pschosis intesifies it's not preconcieved by the audience.
Sunset & Gardner | 35MM
Director Maximilla Lukacs and cinematographer Oliver Lukacs are the children of our main character, Laszlo. This project is a portrait of their father and celebration of his life.
“Beast” is a short film about two sisters. When a destructive force shifts the balance of power between them, it tests the strength of their relationship. Their story is told through a combination of live action performance and stop motion animation.
